Top Ten Tuesday: One-Word Reviews for the Last Ten Books I Read

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.

I thought this would be a super easy topic. I mean, how hard could it be to write a single word about a book?!?! (Plus Goodreads has a ready made list of the last 10 books I’ve read) Boy was I wrong! This was waaaaay harder than I thought haha. But I did my best so take it easy on me!

  1. The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue – Brilliant
  2. The Gentleman’s Guide to Getting Lucky – Flirtatious
  3. The Lady’s Guide to Petticoats and Piracy – Inspiring
  4. Taming Demons for Beginners – Demonic
  5. Slaying Monsters for the Feeble – Excellent
  6. The Nobleman’s Guide to Scandal and Shipwrecks – Reassuring
  7. Locke & Key, Vol. 1: Welcome to Lovecraft – Horror-able
  8. Hunting Fiends for the Ill-Equipped – Sensational
  9. Delivering Evil for Experts – Salacious
  10. How to Defeat a Demon King in Ten Easy Steps – Clever

Have you read any of these? How you would review them in one word?

  1. I would think it’s harder to come up with one word when you’ve read a few series and have to think of different words, but I think you did a great job!

    1. Thanks!! And yes, it was super hard to think of different words for each book in the series! Especially the Annette Marie series since I binged them and can’t actually tell you where one book ended and the next began 😂

  2. I’ve read The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue but it’s been awhile. I think I enjoyed it! How to Defeat a Demon King in Ten Easy Steps is on my TBR, too!

    1. It was sooo hard! 😂 I’m glad I’m not the only one who underestimated it! And its about a boy with sever anxiety and how the people around him build him up and help him instead of just turning their backs on him and I really loved that

  3. Have you finished the “Gentleman’s Guide…” series now? I read the first book years ago and thought it was very well done and mostly funny. I thought this was a fun activity though I had a hard time limiting myself to just one word (and sort of failed at it a few times.) One Word Reviews

    1. A lot of her books all exist in the same world and the characters interact with each other so I would recommend starting with Three Mages and a Margarita (even though I liked this series better, it would spoil the other one if you read them out of order. And I did love them both!)

    1. When I first read the series the novella was only available if you had preordered A Lady’s Guide, and the 3rd book wasn’t out 😂 So now that everything is out and available I decided I needed a re-read 😀

  5. You did such a great job with your one-word! I really want to re-do mine sometime (maybe with a freebie topic) because I’d like to think I could use only one word. We’ll see though. 🙂 Thanks so much for visiting Finding Wonderland. I appreciate this.

  6. This is great! I couldn’t manage one word, I’m afraid, so I am in awe of those of you who could. I really want to try the Mackenzi Lee books. They sound like so much fun.
