The Lady’s Guide to Petticoats and Piracy

(Montague Siblings #2)

This is a re-read for me so I really should have been prepared for the first chapter, but apparently I had blocked it from my memory. I am SUPER squeamish and the details given during the first chapter almost made me pass out. I was listening to the audio book while driving and first I got super hot and a little nauseas, but I was getting over a cold so I didn’t think much of it. But then I literally felt all the blood drain from my face and I got super chilled. I was also covered in goose bumps and my hands started shaking. I pulled over turned off the book and it took me about 10 minutes to recover.

The sad part is that the first chapter isn’t that bad. It describes the main character giving someone stitches. She gets a bit clinical and its really not gory at all, but for some reason clinical descriptions of injuries is what usually effects me the most. Also, I’m not telling you this to scare you away from the book! If you can make it through the first chapter the rest of the book is smooth sailing! (for you, not the characters, they most definitely do not get to sail through smoothly)

One of my favorite parts of this book is the differences in the main female characters. There is a huge emphasis on the fact that you can like pretty dresses and makeup and STILL love getting dirty and exploring. You can also be super tough and dress like a man and STILL be soft and feminine. Even today, in our efforts to make everything inclusive, I think we forget that we don’t have to fit into a label. A person is a combination of a lifetime of experiences and choices, and no two people are alike. So, maybe, we should stop trying to label everything and just let people be who they want.

Plus there is Pirates, Blackmail, Dragons, Adventure, Intrigue, and a whole bunch of other exciting stuff that make this such a great book!!!

Have you read it? Let me know what you think!!!

    1. The third book was good! (My review will be posted Wednesday haha) And there was lots of Monty and a bit of Felicity too! It wasn’t as good as the first two but I would still recommend it
