This is a weekly meme created by Books by Proxy, but currently run by Lynn’s Book Blog.
“I thought unicorns were more . . . Fluffy.”
This weeks theme: A cover featuring a unicorn
Wow this is a tough one! From the books I have read, the only cover I could find with a unicorn was “Not Quite Narwhal” and the only other book I can think of that had Unicorns in it was Harry Potter. I must have read other books with unicorns in them?
My Choice: Stardust
I have been meaning to read this book forever! I loved the movie, and I have heard the book is even better, though more dark and more adult.
I found a Stardust cover with a unicorn, a cover with a unicorn horn, and a cover that might be a unicorn but could also be a horse, I can’t tell.
Covers:
William Morrow 2016 | Words Wonder 2014 | Rocco 2008
William Morrow 2009 | Vertigo 1999 | Review Publishing 2010 | Headline Review 2005
HarperCollins 2008 | William Morrow 1999| William Morrow 2006 | Headline Review 2007
Roca Bolsillo 2009 | Gramedia 2007 | Vertigo 2014 | Heyne 2007
Mondadori 2004 | MAG 2016 | NXB 2017 | A. Mondadori 2005
Titan 1999 | Editorial 2004 | АСТ 2014 | Planeta DeAgostini 2007
Tiritamm 2010 | Wahlstroms 2000| Gramedia 2017 | HarperCollins 2001
АСТ 2009 | Agave 2016 | Trojan 2017 | Literature Publishing House 2018
There were over 200 different editions on Goodreads, so I didn’t display the boring or super weird ones.
Least Favorites:
I like the artwork style of the one on the left but the person thing coming out of her hand is kind of creepy and I can’t tell what is going on. The other two are kind of boring.
Favorites:
Weirdly enough only 1 of my 6 favorites is in English.
- William Morrow and Company – English
- NXB Lao Động – Vietnamese
- Arnoldo Mondadori Editore – Italian
- ACT – Russian
- Tiritamm – Estonian
- Rocco – Portuguese
Winners:
Its a tie! I love both of these covers!
Also, here is a picture of the cover I own (which I love but not as much as the Estonian ship cover!)
And my cats, who have to be involved in all my picture taking!
Oh my word – WHAT a lot of covers! And what a variety… I very much like your favourites – but I love the middle cover on the top row by Words Wonder 2014 – that pale lilac cover is beautiful…

I like the pale lilac color, but I kind of felt the picture in the middle was just a blog of weirdness haha.

Yes – it was a bit of a hot mess, wasn’t it?? Though it being a Neil Gaiman book, that weirdness is quite apt:)

What an amazing choice of book with such beautiful covers. I like your choice and also one of your other favourites, the final blue cover – is that the Portuguese?

Stardust is so underrated! I absolutely love the film and the book 🙂 Your cats are adorable mine don’t care about pictures so much they like to sit on the books when I’m trying to read them!

Great choice this week! I don’t remember a unicorn in Stardust but it has been a while since I read it. I love the Gramedia edition!

I think there was a Unicorn in the movie. It touched the chain binding the star with its horn and the chain disappeared?

I like the Words Wonder edition, as well as the William Morrow 2009 and the Vertigo ’99 covers.
I always love what Vess does with these kinds of stories, art- wise.

I wasn’t a big fan of the Words Wonder edition because it is all kind of a blobby mess, but I really like the other two !! And I agree, Vess has really cool art 🙂

I love tall ships too ❤ I have a tattoo with a ship but the books are sails and I have the Emily Dickenson Poem "There is no frigate like a book to take us lands away"
