This is a weekly meme created by Books by Proxy, but currently run by Lynn’s Book Blog.
“I used that black magical elixir as amulet against all bad things and thoughts for that day. On the other hand, it was a liquid talisman for everybody else, to save them from being strangled by me.”
This weeks theme: A cover featuring an Amulet
My Choice: The Thief
I haven’t read this book, so I don’t know if it is actually an amulet (since an amulet is supposed to be “an ornament or small piece of jewelry thought to give protection against evil, danger, or disease”) but it sure looks like an amulet so it works!
Covers:
Harper Collins 1996 | Greenwillow 1996 | San Val 1998
Turtleback 1998 | Greenwillow 2009 | Bomnamu 2009
Gramedia Pustaka 2011 | Editura Arthur 2014 | Fantaasia 2017

I’m not gonna lie, I don’t love any of these covers. I am not a huge fan of the gold filigree around the title on the left and I like the style of the right cover but I wish it wasn’t so small.
Winner:
I’ve never even heard of this book, but it certainly fits the theme. And I agree, none of these really wow me, but I do like your choice the best😊

I’m not big on many of these either. I think we have very similar taste! Thanks for sharing. ♥️

My favorite is Bomnamu Brittany! But I don’t know if I would have been able to find a book with amulet!

I wouldn’t have guessed it would have been as hard it was!

I own the Turtleback 1998 so you know how long I’ve been procrastinating reading this book. Well, not really. I didn’t get the book when I was 5. It’s my favorite cover other than the first one you chose.

Yup, this totally works! I love the Greenwillow 2009 edition. I didn’t notice it at first glance, but after seeing you highlight it, I think it’s my favorite.

I think it would be much better if the art was bigger and more noticeable! It is really pretty but the details are so small and its so easy to overlook!

My favourite is definitely the Greenwillow 2009 edition. (I think especially because I really like how the Greenwillow editions all look together. It fantastically balances a cover telling a story and not actually spoiling anything until you’ve become familiar with the story. I also just really enjoy looking at it from a purely aesthetic standpoint…

Oooh do they have a lot of the Greenwillow 2009 type covers of different books? That would look really cool!

Ooh I really like the Greenwillow 2009 one too with the silhouettes and that color combo! Although yeah, it definitely could’ve been bigger.

I don’t even remember adding it to my goodreads so I never gave a thought to how many covers there were! But I got lucky that there were plenty to choose from for this week 😀

It’s a great choice for the week’s theme – but like you, none of them seem quite right but I agree with your pick… While I very much dislike the text box which seems far too ornate for the rough hands and plain amulet featured on the cover, it’s the one that seems the best crafted and most attractive of the selection.

It was a tough choice to make. Usually there are a couple covers that stick out as being my easy favorites, but I just didn’t love any of the covers this week!

I like your choice for this – it’s the one that jumped out most for me – except for the silver award badge – grrr!!

Haha the silver award badge doesn’t bother me 😀 It reminds me of middle school reading because most of the books we read had it! But I know it bugs a lot of people
