This weeks theme: A horror cover
If you know me, you know I don’t do horror. No Scary Movies, No Haunted Houses, and Definitely no Horror Books. But I was also a really good kid in school and wouldn’t have dreamt of not reading an assigned book. There were quite a few assigned books that fell into my definition of Horror:
- Crime and Punishment
- The Metamorphosis
- Jane Eyre
- The Picture of Dorian Gray
- The Jungle
- Brave New World
- Frankenstein
- Heart of Darkness
- Lord of the Flies
- The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde
I know its probably a stretch to call some of these “Horror” but they creeped me out enough that I included them!
My Choice: The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde
Covers:
Aionas 2016 | Nikol 2016 | Nova Fronteira 2014 | Simon & Brown 2011

There are 88 pages containing 2,625 editions of Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde on Goodreads, so I just randomly picked covers that caught my eye.
Least Favorites:
Favorites:
Surprisingly I actually really like a lot of these covers, but these two are easily my favorites. No matter how many times I scroll through these two just kept catching my eye.
Winner:
I just love the way his face is obviously different on the two sides but the change is somehow subtle too. I think it is really well done, and captures the story really well!
I am partial to Nhã Nam 2014.

Oh, I definitely agree with your choice! Such a great and creepy book.
I also enjoyed “The Thing on the Doorstep” by H.P. Lovecraft. It was doubly sickening for me because I had a friend at the time who had just ended a relationship with a very manipulative and scary woman. So the story was creepy in and of itself, and the timing was horrible!
Take care,
Yari

You always make it so hard to choose! I think the ones catching my eye are the Signet 1987 and the Random House Canada 1945. But you really found a lot of good ones!

Hahah I try 😂 and I like the Signet one but the Canada one you can’t read the title and that bugs me 😂

I imagined Mr. Hyde much younger but if it captures the essence the best for you than I would agree. However, just to be contrary, the first row of covers are more pleasing to me Aionas 2016 | Nikol 2016 | Nova Fronteira 2014 | Simon & Brown 2011. I never knew you didn’t like horror. TBH me neither. I try.

I read the book probably 10 years ago so I don’t actually remember if he was portrayed as old or young but I always kind of pictured him as old? I really liked the 1st and 3rd covers in the first row!! But they just didn’t make the cut into the top 2 😂 I don’t even try when it comes to horror haha but its good to know I am not alone in disliking it!!

Mine would be Nova Fronteira from 2014 Brittany as I am not on the spooky side LOL

That one is probably my 3rd or 4th favorite! I love the colors on it 🙂

What a great bunch of covers – and an excellent choice of book for this week’s theme:). My favourite is the Livre de Poche 1980 – the two images work well together:)

Thanks 🙂 and they do work well together! I like the shadow idea on that cover!

Brilliant choice – I like Signet 1987 for some reason although there are so many that choosing one is very difficult. 😀

I think that is the cover I read in high school, or at least a similar variation of it! And it was super hard for me to pick this week!

Love a ton of these! I’m going to have to go with the Livraria Civilização edition, that one caught my eye right away and I see it also made it into your top two!

So many interesting covers. I think I like the Nikol 2016 version best of these.

I like the face on that one but I wasn’t a huge fan of the circle haha

Wow- some of these I really like and others not so much. I think my faves are the Nikol 2016, the Lehtipaino Oy 1945, the Parragon ’94 Children’s Classic, and the Penguin 2012. The Atlantic one too, I think, for the misty feel.

The Nikol 2016 seems to be a popular choice this week but I wasn’t a huge fan of the circle. The Penguin 2012 was one of my favorites. I love the aesthetics of it but idk how well it really fits the book haha

I agree with your choice Laura. I never realized that the covers for this book are not very appealing. I read this back in highschool and none of these covers look familiar to me.

It makes sense to me that the covers aren’t super appealing because of the nature of the book 😂
I think I read the Signet 1987 cover in High School, or something similar too it, but there are soooo many covers I didn’t include that it could have easily been missed!

I think that is exactly the reason. You wouldn’t think there would be that many, it makes it so confusing.

WOW that’s a lot. And I really like a lot of these too–they’re all so unique! I love the Lehtipaino Oy (it looks so vintage!) and Livraria Civilização (it’s so creative!)
