Friday Face-Off

Friday Face-Off: Door

This is a weekly meme created by Books by Proxy, but kept up by Lynn’s Book Blog.

“Knock, knock… ‘who’s there?’”

This weeks theme: A cover featuring a door, ajar or closed.

My Choice: Anne of Green Gables

I would not have guessed that it would be hard to find a cover featuring a door, but it was really really hard! I was able to fine an Anne of Green Gables cover with a door! Close enough!

Signet 2003 | Bantam 1982 (1) | Puffin 2014 | Bantam 1982 (2)

Public Domain 2009 | Sterling 2004 | Amazon Classic 2017| Puffin 2008 (1)

Putnam 2008 | Modern Library 2008 | Puffin 2008 (2) | Puffin 1993

Aladdin 2014 | Puffin 1996 | Puffin 2000 | Toromítico 2013

BUR 2009 | Tundra 2014 | Open Road 2014 | Mogul 2014

There are 1,652 editions of Anne of Green Gables! Some of them are duplicate covers but that is still a LOT of covers!! I picked the first 20 that showed up in Goodreads.

Least Favorites:

Puffin 2008 (1) | Puffin 2008 (2) | Sterling 2004 | Puffin 1996

Apparently 2008 was a bad year for Puffin! I don’t like the last cover because Anne looks incredibly dull and not spunky.  The Sterling cover looks creepy and her neck is at a weird angle!

Puffin 1993 | Bantam 1982 (2) | Puffin 2000 | Bantam 1982 (1)

I own the Bantam 1982 (1) edition, but I really like all of these!

I really like this cover! Tho her hair could be a little more red.  I like how she is sitting on the ground and her shoes are untied and she has her braids!

Which is your favorite? Do you agree with my choice? Let me know in the comments!!

  1. I like your pick for this but there are so many to choose from. I still haven’t read this but I’ve seen the movies and love them. I picked up copies recently and added them to my tbr though. So that’s a start, lol. Have a great weekend! 🙂

  2. Oh my goodness – what a lot of covers! And a suprising number do have doors in the background… My favourite is the first Bantam 1982 cover, which was also one of your favourites. I think the girl in that cover is most like how I imagined Anne – I remember reading the book and loving it. Thank you for a great set of covers and bringing back some very happy reading memories:)
