I usually try to keep my reviews spoiler free, but practically everyone and their mother has read Harry Potter, so I am not going to bother.ย  If by some miracle you haven’t read the books, seen the movies, or had someone spoil the ending then I would suggest skipping my review!

You’ve been warned!

I have read the Harry Potter books a million times, but I have never listened to the Audiobooks.ย  Every time a new book or movie came out I re-read the series so this means I have read the 1st book at least 15 times.

But in all the times I have read it I never really picked up on the fact that everything that happens comes back into play later.ย  I know in books everything happens for a reason but I have never noticed it so obviously before.ย  I don’t know if J.K. Rowling is better at this than most or if I was just oblivious before but its amazing how everything is connected.ย  And not just in each individual books but in the entire series.

Here is one of the more obvious chain of events

Chain

So if Dobby hadn’t blocked the barrier then the boys would have been eaten by the spiders.ย  Or if they had managed to escape the spiders without the car, they would have had their memories wiped and been unable to save Ginny.

This may not seem special or profound within a single book but J.K. Rowling keeps this up throughout all 7 books!!!

Another example is the sorting hat.ย  It tries to put Harry into Slytherin but he doesn’t want to be put there. This comes back into play a lot in the second book when Harry starts to doubt himself and which house he is in.ย  But it gets resolved when Harry pulls the sword out of the sorting hat.ย  And I know the sword comes into play in later books!

There is a good chance that you are thinking “Duh Brittany, we all knew this already, this is how books work” but give me a break! I don’t know why, but I have never noticed it like this before and its wonderful and I can’t stop thinking about it!!

Anyway! I love all the Harry Potter books, including the Chamber of Secrets! Jim Dale does a amazing job narrating! And if you haven’t read the Harry Potter series then you need to! I don’t care if you saw all the movies.ย  It doesn’t count and the books are better!

  1. Ooh I’ve gotten into audiobooks lately so if I decide to reread the series I think I’ll go that route.

That’s why I love rereading books. You almost always catch something you missed before. No matter how many times you go through it.

    1. If you do make sure you get the ones narrated by Jim Dale! He is really good!

I don’t usually like rereading books because I know what is going to happen but Harry Potter I can read over and over again!! And I notice new things every time! Plus I haven’t read Harry Potter in years so I forgot a lot of the little stuff!

  2. I think Rowling is brilliant! I would love to do a back to back reread of all seven books, that would be fun to really notice all those plot points and how they relate to each other.

      1. I’ve read the books a bunch of times too! And just because you don’t catch everything doesn’t make you a bad reader or not a real fan!! That just means your reading style is different! Plus there is so much going on in Harry Potter it would be impossible to catch everything!

  3. After really grasping how EVERYTHING came full circle to mean something in Deathly Hallows, I realized JK Rowling is the QUEEN of attention to detail. I love it.

On Spoilers, I was listening to a pod cast and they have a 2 week rule in their office. If something has been out 2 weeks and you haven’t seen it, read it, whatever, that’s on you and now we’re going to talk about it freely. I like that idea, I think 2 weeks in kind of short but I guess since they’re trying to put out content on a movie they need to have it short.

    1. She is the queen!!! She is so freaking amazing!

I am part of a Facebook group of comic enthusiasts and whenever a new big comic movie came out they had the same policy. No spoilers for 2 weeks. I liked that policy. But I still try to keep my reviews spoiler free anyway. And if I do have spoilers I try to make sure I make it clear before hand. Nothing sucks more than accidentally reading a spoiler when it could have easily been avoided!

  4. The only audio books I have ever listened to are Harry Potter. Iโ€™m not usually a big audiobook fan but These ones are amazing!
J.K. Rowling is a master of making sure her events all work together to push the story forward. I would love to see her notes and the way she mapped everything out because it has to be extensive!!
I am going to have to reread the Chamber of Secrets again since I just got the special house 20th anniversary edition!

    1. I’ve been listening to Audiobooks a lot more recently because my drive to work got longer and I was falling asleep. The Audiobooks keep me awake! It would be so awesome to see her notes! She should publish them! That would be super cool ๐Ÿ˜€ What house did you get? I really like that edition!
