Friday Face-Off

Friday Face-Off: Medieval

This is a weekly meme created by Books by Proxy, but kept up by Lynn’s Book Blog.

“Those darling bygone times… with their delicious fortresses, and their dear old dungeons, and their delightful places of torture”

This weeks theme: A cover that is positively medieval.

My Choice: Endure

Covers:

I have a tendency to choose covers with tons of variations, so this week I decided to keep is simple, even though there are other books that are more medieval ish, (Game of Thrones #2 and #3) I chose Endure because there are only 2 different covers!

American Version | German Version

Fun fact: Not only were the covers changed in the German Versions, the titles were changed as well:

  • Defy -> Schwert und Rose (Sword and Rose)
  • Ignite -> Schwert und Glut (Sword and Embers)
  • Endure -> Schwert und Flamme (Sword and Flame)

Winner:

Endure01

The German covers are WAY cooler! The girl on the cover (Alexa) looks so fierce and bad ass! So much better than the flowery weapons on the American covers! Tho I do like that the American covers, when put side by side, the title staggers lower on each cover.

Which cover is your favorite? Do you agree with my pick?

  1. I totally agree with your choice. There’s a sense of action and assertiveness in the covers with the young woman. She looks like she has a purpose. The top covers wouldn’t tempt me to pick up the books. They look almost like romance novels at first glance – not having a go at romance novels, to be clear, but they don’t work for me particularly.

    1. 😀 Even if you were having a go at romance novels I wouldn’t care. I like romance novels but everyone has their own tastes! And I agree she does look like she has a purpose! And the other covers don’t look very action-like

      1. I wouldn’t do that. Each to their own is my motto. I used to read more romance. Then more historical, then thriller and now SFF. It’s just something that happens. Your taste in books just evolves and adapts. In another few years I could quite easily have come full circle. 😄

  2. Ooh medieval! I like the same one, completely agree- in fact of the three covers with the girl I like the third one the best! The American versions aren’t as catchy? Also I would never have noticed the staggering of the titles on the American versions if you hadn’t mentioned it…

  3. The cover of Endure grabs my attention for some reason. I don’t usually go for “weapons only” on covers, but maybe it’s the giant flower in the center?? Great choice!
