My First Ever Bullet Journal!

I had never heard of a Bullet Journal until I saw Misty’s post about her 2018 Bullet Journal.  I fell in love with the idea!  Some of the things in her bullet journal I was already doing, just on loose pieces of paper.  Other things, like the lists, appealed to my organizational side.  (I am definitely a list person!)

I have a feeling I will be adding a lot more, as I discover more, but here is my Bullet Journal so far:

Journal

First step was buying the actual Journal.  I had never done this before so I didn’t want to spend too much money (in case I give up after a month)

The one I chose has a sleek black cover and brightly colored pages!  It was $7 for a three pack, and it is lined.

Now that I have been working on it, I don’t know if there are enough pages (it says 60, but there are really only 30 pages, they counted front and back as 2). I have also learned that there are actual bullet journals that have grid dots on each page instead of lines.  Grid dots would have made my life soooo much easier.

Intro Page

You will have to excuse my penmanship throughout the whole Journal.  I don’t love it, but at least its easy to read!

Calendar

I created a page with a full year overview and multiple pages dedicated to keeping track of all the things going on.  (well, I drew up the first three months and left empty pages to fill out the rest of the months later)

Before my bullet journal, I was keeping track of my appointments on a printed out calendar, so putting it in my book won’t be that much of a change.  The only thing that is different is that I can’t see the day of the week on the yellow page, and that might be an issue.

Finances

I was already tracking my bills this way on a printed excel spreadsheet, so transferring into my book was easy!

I was keeping track of this on the back of my bill’s spreadsheet, so again this isn’t new.

This one, I had been keeping track of in my phone, so it will be nice to have a more permanent location.  I will use this for keeping track of people I owe money to and whatever else applies.

Tracking Charts

I created a list of things that I do on a regular basis.  This includes things I need to do (like feed the cats) things I shouldn’t do (like eat fast food) and things I want to do (like read), so some of the lines will hopefully stay empty while others need to be full.

I really like the mood tracker, but I think it will be hard for me because my mood fluctuates so much in the span of a single day.  I am going to let myself color up to two moods a day. (Am and Pm)

I had to skip January for these two trackers because I just started my journal 2 days ago and there is no way for me to go back and see how I felt or what I did.

Tracking Activities and Ideas

While these are still technically lists, I liked the aesthetics of them being more free-form.  It makes me happy 🙂

To be added later

I was very conscious of space, and tried not to do too many pages that were for a single month.  I also used the front and back of most of the pages.  (Originally I didn’t want to use the backs) So far, I have used a little over half the pages (its a good thing I used the backs or I would have ran out of pages already)

I know I will be adding more pages as new ideas come along.  I already have some thoughts on what to add next:

  • Doodles
  • Notes
  • TBR
  • Movies I want to watch
  • Book Haul
  • Wishlist

Inspiration

Since I had no knowledge of Bullet Journals before reading Misty’s Post, I got a lot of information from other blogs.  Here are some blog posts showing off the super awesome Bullet Journals their bloggers created:

Lets Talk!

  1. Love! You are off to such a great start with so many fun pages. I like how your journal has different color pages, it seems like that could be a great way to keep it organized as well as be creative! Thank you for the mention too, I appreciate you!

  2. The idea of a bullet journal intrigues me and I want to try it. I just have no creative bone in my body and I have a tendency to have to have things exactly perfect. If I mess up, I gotta start all over.
But you know what? I’m going to give it a shot. I want to do this. 🙂

    1. I am not super creative either! That is why most of my pages are fairly simple, especially if you compare it to some of the others I have seen. Washi tape seems to be super popular for easily decorating your pages. The best part of the book tho is that it can still be super useful without being artsy 🙂 Good Luck on your journal!! I hope it works for you too!

  3. Thank you so much for linking to my post and I am so glad that my bullet journal post along with other inspired you to create one yourself!! I think you have a great start to your bullet journal. I didn’t even think about mentioning what journal I use in my post. If you’re interested in looking into it it’s a leuchtturm 1917 dotted A5 I got mine from Amazon!!

  4. After not understanding them for years, I finally decided to give bullet journals a try. I’m just not crafty/artsy enough to do much with them, but I think it will be helpful for to-do lists, so I think that’s what I’m going to use it for.

    1. Mine isn’t super artsy, especially compared to most of the other ones I have seen. I have very little artistic ability so I just kept it simple. I love lists, so that is the main point of mine! Good luck with yours! I hope you enjoy it 🙂

  5. Wowww your journal looks AMAZEBALLS! I have one laying around from the OC bookbox and its staring at me all sad that I don’t use it but I just don’t like doing it 😭 I always end up grabbing a book to read instead of writing down what I thought of the previous one 🤣

But the idea of keeping a record of progress, change, numbers etc is so cool so big thumbs up for you! 👍
