Mini Reviews!

As much as I love blogging and writing reviews I just haven’t been feeling it lately.  I read a book, go to sleep thinking about all the awesome things I would write about it, and then the next day I either have too much to do or just don’t feel like taking the time to write a full review.

The further behind I get, the worse I feel (because I really should finish those reviews) and also the less I want to write the review (Its been two weeks, do I really remember what happened?)  I don’t want to start new books because I don’t want to get them all mixed up, but all I want to do is read.  So what do I do?

I have decided to write mini reviews!  I am actually really excited to write these.  I will clear my to-do list and not spend a ton of time procrastinating writing.  That way I can get back to reading! Its a win-win!

The Lady Travelers Guide to Larceny with a Dashing Stranger

This is the sequel to The Lady Travelers Guide to Scoundrels & Other Gentlemen.  I haven’t written a review for that book, but I did use it as one of the books in a 6 Degrees of Separation post.  I mentioned that I had tried to find the sequel but it was out of stock.  My friend Phil remembered that I had never gotten around to reading the sequel so he bought me it for Christmas, which was super sweet of him!

***** (5 out of 5)

I really liked this book.  The main heroine, Willie, is independent and strong, but also caring and levelheaded.  She is awesome.  I loved the fact that when she was in a fight with Dante she would plan out everything she wanted to say to him and plan how the argument would go.  (with her winning, of course) Then in the heat of things, her plan would go out the window.  I am the exact same way.  No matter how I plan it out, the conversations never go the way they play out in my head.  It is nice to know I am not alone in this!

Overall I would recommend this book!  You don’t need to read the first one to understand what it going on.  They are their own stories.  The plot is fun and unique and its always nice to read about dashing strangers!

The Law of Tall Girls

***** (5 out of 5)

I am 5’10”.  I am considered tall, but not freakishly so. The heroine of this novel is a little over 6′.  Even though I am not as tall as her, I could totally relate to a lot of the issues she has.  Obviously it is hard to find tall guys to date.  My first two boyfriends were shorter than me.  Call me shallow but I need a guy that is taller than me!  Another issue she has is with clothes! There was a scene where she is shopping with her short best friend.  It was perfect.  Every issue I have ever had with clothing was summed up perfectly.  Tall people need clothes that fit too!

The story itself was pretty much gender swapped “10 Things I Hate About You”  For the most part it is pretty predictable, but that doesn’t detract from its awesomeness.  I loved “10 Things I Hate About You” and I loved “The Law of Tall Girls”

The only thing I want to warn people about. (Soft spoiler / Trigger Warning) There is a scene that has some accidental public nudity / wardrobe malfunction that borderlines on assault.  The adults in the book take it very seriously and are willing to take it to the police, which was good, but the victim knows it was an accident and wants it let go.  The scene didn’t bother me but it could possibly be a trigger to some people.

Despite that I loved the book and highly recommend it!  Its a feelgood story that falls into the same bucket as books like The Summer I Became a Nerd and The Ugly Stepsister Strikes Back.

This book is sad.  But its also super heartwarming.  I cried a lot, but I also laughed.  I could see this book being a classic.  I know they just made a movie out of it, but I haven’t seen it yet.  I will rent it when it becomes available digitally.  I hope they do a good job with the movie, because the book is so amazing.

“Wonder” takes on some very tough topics about people (specifically children) with deformities.  It takes you through the struggles of not only the child, but their friends and family as well.  It shows how mean some children can be, and how amazingly compassionate other children are.  It even delves into the gray area.  Children that have both traits inside them, and how they struggle and learn what is right.

Technically its an easy read.  The font is big and its not super long.  But emotionally its tough. Be prepared to cry. I would highly suggest everyone read it! It is worth it!

All My Friends Are Dead

***** (5 out of 5)

This book is hilarious.  Its cheeky and random and awesome.  However, I am pretty sure its not a kids book, even though it is a picture book with only one sentence per page.  I highly recommend all adults go read this book if you are looking for a quick smile.  Its a SUPER quick read.  But its fun 🙂

I realize I gave all four of these books 5 stars, but I really liked them all! I can’t really compare them to each other because they are all completely different, and each one is awesome in its own right.

Also I have no idea why I used Pusheen gifs for the whole post.  I found the first one and it was just so cute I wanted to keep using them!

Anyway! Thanks for reading 🙂 Have you read any of these? What did you think?  Let me know in the comments!

  1. I was simply completely distracted with all the Pusheen-gifs, haha! I’ve been obsessed with that cat for a while now. I don’t even want to know how many lazy pants I have with Pusheen all over it. Everywhere!

Wonder has been on my “need to buy”-list for a while now. I’ve heard great things about it so I really should get myself a copy… The Law of Tall Girls sounds interesting as well. It’s not like I’m really tall – 5 feet 9-ish? – but a looot of the guys over here are pretty much smaller. At least most of my guy friends are, haha.

    1. I have seen plusheen and always thought it was cute, but up until I found the first gif I didn’t know it had a specific name, and I don’t know much about it, but it is sooo cute!

You don’t have to be tall to enjoy The Law of Tall Girls! It is a great story about accepting your body the way it is 🙂 It just helped that I could totally relate haha.
