Blogger Recognition Award

blogger-recognition-award-three

I was nominated for the Blogger Recognition Award by Amber at Step Into a Book World.  Thanks for nominating me Amber!  I appreciate it 🙂

This is an award given by bloggers to other bloggers as a recognition of their hard work.  I am amazed at how interactive and supportive so many bloggers have been!  When I first started my blog I really only thought my grandma would read it, but there is a whole community of book bloggers who support one another and its awesome!

Rules:

  • Thank the blogger who nominated you and provide a link to their blog.
  • Write a post to show your award.
  • Give a brief story of how your blog started.
  • Give two pieces of advice to new bloggers.
  • Select 15 other bloggers you’d like to give this award to.
  • Comment on each blog and let them know you’ve nominated them, providing a link to the post you’ve created. (Please make sure you do this step! Otherwise they won’t know you’ve tagged them.)

How I got started:

I had never reviewed a book before when I won a book in a Goodreads giveaway.  When you win books you are supposed to write reviews.  Even though I didn’t like the book, I really enjoyed writing the review.  I then started reading other people’s reviews for different books and noticed some of them had links to their blogs.  That was when I first discovered the wonderful world of book blogs.  So, rash decision, I decided I wanted to try and create a blog.  I was worried it would fail or that I would be ridiculed so I only told two people I know, but they both have been super supportive.  It has been going really well so far, I think, and I have enjoyed it 🙂

Advice 1:

Be yourself.  Don’t feel like you have to be all professional with your reviews.  Write what you want when you want.  If you read my reviews they tend to stray off the topic of the book.  I just start typing and go where it takes me.  Also on the same line, don’t feel like your blog has to fit in a niche.  Most of my posts are about books, but if I want to write a post about a movie I can.  Its your blog! Do what makes you happy.

Advice 2:

This may contradict Advice 1 a little bit, but shorter is better.  I don’t always follow this rule myself, because I type what I want and don’t care if anyone reads it.  But when reading other people’s blog I tend to lose interest if there is a lot of writing.  I like it when its either broken up with pictures, or when it is short and sweet.  This doesn’t mean I won’t read long posts, just that I am more likely to read short ones that catch my attention.

  1. Aww you are very welcome! ❤
I love your advice! You are so right, your blog is yours and you should post whatever you want too. I personally enjoy other things as much I love to read. I love blogs that fit a person's personality and love seeing it when they write a review.

  2. Thank you so much for nominating me for the award. It is a great appreciation for the new bloggers, and I feel so overwhelmed! I really liked your advice because I also thought the same way that my writings can be ridiculed by others. And moreover this exchange of appreciation will surely help more fresh bloggers like me, to go on writing boldly!

  3. Thanks so much for tagging me! I have a similar story to starting my blog (well not that similar, but it involved Good Reads). I was looking at a book I wanted to read on Good Reads and saw someone comment that it was a “read now” on NetGalley. So then I wanted to use NetGalley and figured I’d have to have a blog to do it.

  4. Thank you so much for the nomination! I love your advice and completely agree that you should do what makes you happy 😀 And yes I do agree that shorter and sweeter is often better (and love when people break it up with pictures 🙂 ) Awesome post!
